Sunday Times Parent Power East Midlands Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020

We are delighted to announce that Leicester Grammar School has been named the Sunday Times Parent Power East Midlands Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020; further details will be found in this Sunday's edition.

Headmaster, John Watson, commented:

"This exciting news not only reflects the outstanding achievements of our pupils but also the very positive and supportive nature of our school community. Our pupils thrive on a vast array of opportunities, both within and beyond the classroom, and we are very proud of the generous and well-rounded young adults they become."

Ours is a culture that breeds happy success. Last week alone, our pupils' achievements were both exceptional and remarkable:

A Year 11 girl came first in the regional round of the Historical Association Great Debate Competition, progressing to the national final at Windsor Castle in March.

The Senior Maths Challenge Team won the regional round, beating 14 other teams, and proceed to the national final in February.

A Year 10 boy won the Harborough District Junior Sportsman of the Year for reaching national and international level in four sports. Four Year 10 girls were part of the netball team which won Team of the Year at the same sports awards.

Our U16 netball team won 6 out of 7 games, progressing to the East Midlands regional schools final.

The U15 Girls' Tennis Team won their regional final in Birmingham, qualifying for the national final in Bolton in December.

Our recently trained Diana Award anti-bullying ambassadors led assemblies and worked with form groups during national anti-bullying week, and our Eco Groups spoke to others about initiatives to save the environment.

About 200 pupils performed in an exhilarating Lower School Concert! All 134 Prep and Year 7 pupils performed in Lower School Singers, including 16 soloists. 95 pupils performed on their instruments. There were 13 different groups, including 25 violinists in the training orchestra.

The closing date for applications for 2020 entry at 11+ is imminent. We also invite applications for other ages, including Sixth Form, as well as expressions of immediate interest in case we currently have vacancies between Years 7 and 9.
