Exciting Developments in the LGS Trust

Leicester Grammar School (founded 1981) moved from the city to its 75-acre site and purpose-built campus in Great Glen in 2008 and today educates 1260 children aged 3 -18. Stoneygate Prep School was absorbed into the Trust in 2016, with plans to extend its provision to age 16 and to ensure a vibrant future for the school community. Pleased with the school's growing popularity, Trustees and senior leaders have outlined an ambitious and exciting plan to parents and staff, to develop the school's curriculum, to invest in facilities and to lend greater clarity and distinctiveness to the school's aims and identity within the Trust. Parental feedback has given very strong endorsement to the plans and to the future direction and promise of the school.

The school, also situated on a beautiful rural site in Great Glen, will be renamed LGS Stoneygate in September, assuming a proud place alongside LGS Senior and LGS Junior, and offering a non-selective but ambitious education for children aged 4-16, with smaller classes and a new senior curriculum best suited to their needs and aspirations.

Principal of the Trust, Mr John Watson, commented:

"We are very excited by this new project, which will enable us to offer complementary opportunities, pathways and experiences to our pupils within the LGS family, working together to enrich the lives of all members of our school communities. We have been fortunate to maintain a high quality of remote learning and care throughout the pandemic and look forward to welcoming many new pupils in September."

LGS Junior will have a new headteacher from September, as Mrs Rigby retires after excellent service to the school and the Trust. She will leave the school with more pupils than at any time hitherto, and we are confident that it will go from strength to strength under the leadership of Mrs Sophia Ashworth Jones, a very experienced head who will join us from Belmont Grosvenor School in Harrogate.
