Bursaries
Parents may apply for bursary support when their child first applies to the school, or at another time if their financial situation changes significantly. Bursaries are means-tested, which means that parents must share detailed financial information with the school to access bursary support. Bursaries are also dependent on pupil academic performance, either in the entrance exam or internal exams (if the child is already at the school). Only pupils showing good academic potential, or already performing at a good academic level, are likely to be able to access bursary funding.

LGS Bursaries for entry into Years 7 to 12
We are keen to make a Leicester Grammar School education accessible to as many suitable applicants as possible, regardless of financial means. Bursary support is available either for new applicants to the School or for existing pupils whose circumstances have changed, and only from Year 7. Bursaries of up to 100% of the termly fee are available, subject to rigorous testing of financial need and limited by the overall bursaries budget.
It is sadly the case that the number of applications for assistance greatly exceeds the ability of the School to provide such help, so please note that these awards are not guaranteed.

Sir Thomas White Trust Scholarship for entry into Year 12
Leicester Grammar School is pleased to offer the opportunity to apply for a 100% means-tested scholarship for state-educated students hoping to join the school in the Sixth Form. The funding for this is from the Sir Thomas White Trust and covers the full tuition fee for both Sixth Form years.
Suitable applicants must:
- permanently reside in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland
- expect to achieve 9 grades at GCSE at level 9-7
- be currently educated in a state school
- have a family income of less than £50,000 (and this can be means-tested on application)
- be interviewed by representatives of the Sir Thomas White Trust who make the final selection. To convince the interviewing panel you will need to show ambition and drive to succeed.
To apply, please follow the normal Grammar School application by following the steps on this link as well as providing a covering letter from the applicant to explain why they should be considered for the award.
The deadline for receipt of applications for entry in September 2024 is 14th December 2023.
Interviews will take place at Leicester Grammar School in January 2024 and with the Sir Thomas White Trustees in March 2024.
