New Year Honour for OL

Congratulations to Nick Cummins (OL'03), who plays in the Leicester Tigers wheelchair rugby side and represents Britain on the national team. Nick has been awarded an MBE for services to the sport, along with his 11 Team GB teammates, with whom he won gold in the Paralympics in Tokyo in 2020.

Nick said to the Leicester Mercury:

"It was a really pleasant surprise. I had a letter from the Cabinet Office on my doormat and I didn't know what it was going to be about. The whole team has been honoured after we won gold in Tokyo and for raising the profile of the sport."

The pandemic has delayed a lot of tournaments but hopefully a lot will be happening in the sport in 2022.

Nick, 36, said: "We've got a busy year ahead with a lot of things postponed because of Covid happening now - hopefully. There's the European championships at the end of February and we're off to Paris for that. Then there's the world championships to get ready for next year. I also play locally in the Leicester Tigers wheelchair team and we've got our first tournament coming up after two years without anything happening."

We hope to welcome Nick into school to inspire our pupils in the near future.
