Health & wellbeing take centre stage for National Sports Week 2025

Last week, Leicester Grammar School celebrated National Sports Week 2025—but with a twist. Building on the success of last year, the PE department took a fresh approach by placing a strong emphasis on Health & Wellbeing, encouraging engagement and participation over competition.

Rather than focusing solely on traditional sports, the week was all about promoting the power of physical activity to support both physical and mental health, using alternative activities that pupils don’t usually experience in the day-to-day curriculum.

Throughout the week, pupils had the chance to try a wide range of inclusive and fun activities, including:

Form time fun - Each morning began with a high-energy Tug O’ War competition—form vs. form—to kick-start the day with teamwork and excitement.

Lunchtime TT (Try Time) highlights - Strength challenges, Just Dance on a big screen, golf putting & chipping, Spike Ball, basketball shoot-outs - These sessions provided something for everyone—whether pupils wanted to get competitive or just try something new with friends.

Rowing machine challenge - Running all week was an inter-year group Rowing Machine Distance Challenge to see which year group could row the furthest. Not to be left out, staff also joined in, with Mr Watson (Headmaster), Ms Young (Deputy Head Pastoral), and Mr Anderson (Senior Deputy Head) all taking to the rowing machines daily to boost the staff total!

The week was a big success, bringing the school community together through shared activity and reminding us all of the vital link between movement, happiness, and wellbeing.

Well done to everyone who took part—and thank you to the PE department for organising such an uplifting and energising week!
