2027 Entry
We are now welcoming applications for entry in September 2027 and the deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday 7 December 2026. The assessment day will take place on Tuesday 5 January 2027. To apply, please click here.

Entry into Year 6 (10+)
- Applicants will sit papers in English comprehension (30 minutes), creative writing (30 minutes) and Maths (60 minutes). For more information click here
- They will also take part in group assessment activities in both large and small groups. They don't (and can't!) prepare for these.
Entry into Year 7 (11+)
- Applicants will sit papers in English (60 minutes, based mostly on comprehension but with a creative writing component) and Maths (60 minutes). There is also a computer-based
reasoning assessment. - Candidates will also engage in group assessment activities. No preparation is required (or indeed possible) for these. They will be conducted in small and large groups with other candidates of the same age. For more details, click here
- Some candidates may be called for interview during the week following the assessment day.
Entry into Years 8 (12+) and 9 (13+)
- Applicants will sit papers in English comprehension (45 minutes), creative writing (45 minutes) and Maths (60 minutes). There is also a computer-based reasoning assessment.
- Candidates will engage in group assessment activities. No preparation is required (or indeed possible) for these. They will be conducted in small groups with other candidates of the same age.
- Candidates will also have a 15-minute interview with a member of LGS staff to understand their co-curricular interests, reasons for moving school and approach to learning.

Entry into Year 10 (14+)
- Papers are taken in English comprehension (45 minutes), creative writing (45 minutes) and Mathematics (60 minutes).
- Candidates will also receive 20-minute interviews with members of LGS staff:
- A science interview, to explore their learning to date in Biology, Chemistry and Maths.
- A humanities interview, to explore their learning to date in Geography, History and RS
- A general interview, to understand their co-curricular interests, reasons for moving school and approach to learning
