LGS pupils excel at Model United Nations conference

Twelve Leicester Grammar School pupils enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the prestigious Model United Nations (MUN) conference hosted by Cheadle Hulme School, competing alongside around 400 delegates from 29 schools.
Representing both Australia and Saudi Arabia across a range of committees, our pupils demonstrated exceptional debating, diplomacy and public speaking skills, returning home with an impressive collection of individual and team awards.
Particularly notable were the achievements of Ruth and Githikaashrre, who both received Outstanding Delegate Awards. With only around 12 Outstanding Delegate awards presented across the entire conference, securing two of them was a remarkable accomplishment for the LGS delegation. These awards recognised them both as the leading delegates in their committees.
There was further reason to celebrate as both Githikaashrre and Emilia were attending their first MUN conference. Githikaashrre was named Outstanding Delegate in the Youth Committee, while Emilia was awarded Best Young Delegate in the Special Committee on Female Refugees, an impressive achievement for newcomers to the international debating arena.

And finally, in what may have been the most fiercely celebrated victory of the weekend, a team comprising Max, Rosie, Araminta, Joseph and Ruth triumphed in the conference quiz during Saturday evening's social event. While the debating accolades were certainly impressive, the students appeared especially proud of bringing home the quiz title!
The conference provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to engage with global issues, develop their diplomatic and negotiation skills, and collaborate with like-minded students from across the country. The breadth of awards achieved by the LGS delegation is a testament to the pupils' dedication, preparation and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic and highly successful weekend and many thanks to Mr Johnson and Mrs Penney for accompanying them.
