Trips
“One must travel to learn”
Mark Twain
Going on a school trip can be one of the most exciting and memorable events in a child's education. The sensation of being away with friends, and apart from parents, brings a special kind of thrill. Trips also offer unique learning opportunities, and a chance to indulge interests in a way that the structure of the school day does not allow.

We are proud to run a wide variety of trips at Leicester Grammar School. Many trips can be completed within a day but still offer something which we could not achieve in school, for example, trips to the theatre, the Young Voices concert or a trip to the Bank of England.

Many trips have an academic focus, and complement the skills and knowledge that pupils acquire in their lessons, for example a Psychology or RS conference, a visit to Riga to learn about the Cold War or developing Physics knowledge at CERN.

Some trips offer pupils a chance to develop or test their co-curricular skills, including playing as a part of the Big Band at a professional venue, driving the Greenpower car at Goodwood, or competing for the school at the Rosslyn Park Rugby 7s tournament.

We run a number of longer trips in our activities week in June where we invite all children in a year group to join us, these can include going to a PGL centre, or to Hadrian’s wall or to be immersed in a different culture in France or Germany.

And we offer a small number of once-in-a-lifetime trips, which offer truly unique experiences, such as a Classics trip to Greece, a Biology trip to Costa Rica, a sports tour to South Africa, hoping to see the Northern Lights in Iceland or Skiing with Year 8 friends.
The trips available to pupils vary according to year group, interest, and they change over time. What will not change, however, is the joy that our pupils gain from the trips they go on, or the importance that we place on offering these opportunities to pupils.
