End of Term Message

It is hard to believe that we have already reached the end of term! It does feel like the weeks have flown by, perhaps because it has been slightly shorter than usual and yet so packed with activity.

This week has been no exception! Two Greenpower teams tested their electric cars at Mallory Park, and four Rugby Sevens squads travelled to Rosslyn Park to compete on the national stage. We have also selected our new Prefects and Heads of School.

Culturally, the Sinfonietta toured local primary schools, and Wednesday’s vibrant cultural fashion show (complete with dancing dinosaurs!) brought great joy to pupils. Meanwhile, Year 7 and 8 pupils represented the school at the County indoor athletics championships, with our Year 8 boys finishing an impressive second. Year 12 geographers also enjoyed their residential, and older pupils attended a valuable Life Education session on festival safety. Finally, our Classics trip departed for Greece this morning.

Perhaps the highlight of the week was Tuesday’s Tom Ellis Challenge, arrange by Mr McCann and the Sports Department. This cross-country run commemorates Tom Ellis, an LGS pupil who sadly lost a brave battle with cancer in 2020, while in Year 10. In Monday’s whole-school assembly, Mr Hunt and Mr McCann spoke movingly about Tom and explained why this event holds such meaning within our school community.

Pupils really embraced the afternoon, with the whole school (including a number of my more athletically inclined colleagues) completing at least one lap, and most managing two. It was a joyous occasion that encouraged us to step beyond our comfort zones and show good-humoured resilience, while celebrating someone who faced far greater challenges with immense courage.

Looking ahead, pupils in Year 11 and 13 will need resilience in the coming weeks, as they enter their final preparations for GCSE and A-level exams. We wish them motivation and diligence in their work, but remind them that rest and activity away from their books are also essential.

Finally, I would like to wish a belated Eid Mubarak to our families who observed Ramadan, and an energising Easter break to all. I look forward to welcoming your children back when school reopens on Thursday 16th April.

With best wishes,

Magnus Anderson
