What A levels are you studying?

I am studying Latin, Maths and Physics. I love the way in which my subjects allow me to utilise both the analytical and creative sides of my brain, whether it be solving an equation or delving into a raw piece of ancient literature.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

First, I love pursuing my passion for Classical Civilisation through reading and visiting museums, where I can immerse myself in ancient history. It’s fascinating to me to explore the complex lives of people much before our own time and understand how societies used to function. On the other hand, I am a highly competitive person, who values physical activity, so outside of the classroom I enjoy representing both our school rugby team and a club side. In addition to this, some of my other hobbies are rock climbing, going to the gym, and collecting vinyl.

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

For me, what I really appreciate is the huge level of commitment from staff members and my teachers to make lessons engaging and informative - it makes my own effort completely worthwhile when I have encouraging teachers to help me improve. The wide range of opportunities offered to me has been amazing, so I appreciate the effort put into organising co-curricular events, ultimately helping the LGS environment to be one which promotes unity through individuality and helps everyone to find what they love.

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

I am keen to maintain the tight-knit community within LGS, promoting interaction and support between different year groups. A particular area where this could be strengthened might be around Year 9, perhaps in the form of older years providing advice ahead of GCSE selection, since there is already a teacher-led options evening. This interaction also comes through co-curricular activities, so I would like to encourage everyone to embrace their unique talents through these clubs, and to discover new ones by having an open and curious mindset. Aside from this, I think it’s important for pupils to continue voicing their opinions and ideas, through Student Council discussions for example. By doing this, our school environment would continue to reflect and prioritise the values of its pupils.

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

Truth be told, I’m not fully sure… I am excited to develop as a person, with the potential for a gap-year before university, where I would look to build connections and visit more interesting places. Afterwards, I would love to continue studying Latin, picking back up the Classics element of this field, since I believe they both combine beautifully - for me, Latin being a creative and versatile, yet logically derived language, while Classics provides the context to fully appreciate this language and what influenced it.

What A levels are you studying?

I am studying Psychology, English Literature and Religious Studies. I love that many of the topics I study are interlinked across my subjects, and how this enables me to have a wide range of perspectives on these matters.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

I love acting and all of the fun that comes with being involved in theatre. Most of my favourite memories from LGS over the years have been from rehearsing for and performing in school productions. I found this to be a great way of mixing with different year groups and making new friends across the school. The drama department puts on shows of an incredibly high standard and offer opportunities for all age groups. I also am involved in the Change Group, which provides activities and resources to support younger pupils within the school community. These activities help pupils in the younger years develop new friendships and learn how easily taking part in small activities can benefit their wellbeing. As well as this, I find the school gym is a really good resource and I attend sessions a number of times a week.

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

I am so grateful for the opportunities and community that LGS provides its pupils. Over my whole LGS career, there has been a multitude of co-curricular activities available, including sports, music, drama, art, and many more. There really is something for everyone, which makes it easy to find a place for yourself in the community. At the heart of this community is the combination of supportive staff and kind pupils. The enthusiasm of our teachers has made a big difference during my time at LGS – their knowledge and passion for their subjects has really helped me develop academically during my time here. I am a big advocate for the LGS House System, and I am a House Captain myself. I adore how House competitions bring pupils across all year groups together, which provides younger pupils with older, positive role models, allows pupils to make new friends, take on leadership roles, try new things and generally enjoy themselves.

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

I am looking forward to working with the new headmaster to continue the communication between the pupil body and the Senior Leadership Team. As changes and new ideas are implemented, I would like to ensure that the voice of pupils is a constructive part of that process. Something I am eager to explore is if the online communication systems between pupils and teachers can be enhanced to help with organisation. I am really keen to encourage more of the pupil body to get even more involved in the range of activities and opportunities that LGS has to offer, so that they can get more out of life at LGS. Ideally, I would love for everyone to feel at home at LGS, and know that they can reach out to anyone if they have any worries at all.

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

When I leave LGS, I am planning on studying psychology or criminology at university. A particular area of interest for me is the link between early childhood experiences and later development, areas such as the predetermination of criminal behaviour, the development of psychological disorders and the impact of learning disabilities. I would also love to travel to as many countries as possible to learn about different cultures, meet new people and create once-in-a-lifetime memories.
