Art scholarships

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Entry (external candidates only) and Sixth Form (external and internal candidates):
Art scholarships are awarded to candidates who demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency for their age, as well as evidence of creative potential, originality and imagination.
Art Scholarships (Years 7–10)
We are delighted to offer Art Scholarships for pupils entering Years 7–10 at LGS. These scholarships recognise and nurture young artists who show exceptional skill, creativity and imagination.
Who should apply?
Art Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate:
- A high level of technical ability for their age
- Strong creative potential
- Originality and imagination
While most awards are made to pupils entering Year 7, outstanding applicants joining Years 8–10 may also be considered.
How to apply
Applications for an Art Scholarship should be submitted as part of the main application for entry to LGS.
- Application deadline: Monday 7 December 2026
- Applicants must submit a digital portfolio of 5–10 pieces of artwork created within the past 12 months
Portfolio guidelines:
- One clear photograph per artwork
- A short description of each piece, including the media used
- Submitted as a single PDF titled: APPLICANT NAME – Art Scholarship
Assessment process
- Digital portfolios are reviewed by the Head of Art
- Selected candidates are invited to the school for a drawing assessment in January 2027 (date to be confirmed)
- Scholarships are awarded based on both the portfolio and the assessment
Assessments take place following the entrance exams in January. Late applicants (after January) will normally be considered the following year.
Expectations of Art Scholars
Art Scholars are expected to:

Continue their study of Art at GCSE

Take an active role in the artistic life of the school
- Participate in co-curricular activities, exhibitions and trips
Benefits and recognition
Art Scholars receive:
- A £500 reduction on first-term fees
- Opportunities to enter internal and external competitions
- Opportunities to showcase their work at school events and exhibitions
- Invitations to special occasions, including an annual tea with the Headmaster for scholars and parents
- An Art Scholar’s pin badge
- Recognition in the school’s Celebration of Achievement programme
Art Scholarships (Year 12)
Our Sixth Form Art Scholarships are designed to support and inspire students with exceptional artistic talent as they prepare for further study and creative careers.
Who should apply?
Art Scholarships are awarded to students entering Year 12 who demonstrate:
- Strong technical ability
- Creativity, originality and a clear artistic voice
- Commitment to developing their practice at an advanced level
How to apply
- Application deadline: Friday 26 February 2027
- Applicants must submit a digital portfolio as part of their application
Digital portfolios will be carefully reviewed by the Head of Art.
Assessment process
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to LGS for an interview during the Lent (Spring) Term 2027
- As part of the process, candidates will also complete an assessment drawing
- Scholarships are awarded based on the portfolio, interview and drawing assessment
Expectations of Art Scholars
Sixth Form Art Scholars are expected to:
- Study Art at A level
- Take an active role in the creative life of the school
- Contribute to exhibitions, events, and the wider promotion of Art within LGS
Benefits and recognition
Art Scholars in the Sixth Form receive:
- A £500 reduction on first-term fees
- A Sixth Form scholar tie or pin badge
- Opportunities to enter internal and external competitions
- Opportunities to support open evenings and options events, and to have their work displayed across the school
- Individual guidance to develop a professional portfolio for university applications and interviews
- Their name displayed on the Sixth Form Scholars Board
- An invitation for the scholar and their parents to attend an annual tea with the Headmaster
