Drama scholarships

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Entry (external candidates only) and Sixth Form (external and internal candidates):
Drama scholarships are awarded to candidates who demonstrate a high level of practical ability for their age as well as a genuine passion and proven dedication to developing their performance skills.
Drama Scholarships (Years 7–10)
We are delighted to offer Drama Scholarships for pupils entering Years 7–10 at LGS. These scholarships recognise and nurture students who show exceptional performance ability, creativity and a genuine passion for drama.
Who should apply?
Drama Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate:
- A high level of practical performance ability for their age
- Strong enthusiasm for drama and theatre
- Commitment to developing their skills both on and off the stage
While most awards are made to pupils entering Year 7, outstanding applicants joining Years 8–10 may also be considered.
How to apply
Applications for a Drama Scholarship should be submitted as part of the main application for entry to LGS.
- Application deadline: Monday 7 December 2026
Assessment process
- Applications are reviewed by the Director of Drama
- Selected candidates will be invited to LGS for an audition workshop in January 2027 (date to be confirmed)
- Scholarships are awarded based on:
- Relevant experience
- Potential
- Performance skills demonstrated during the audition
Assessments take place following the entrance exams in January. Late applicants (after January) will normally be considered the following year.
Expectations of Drama Scholars
Drama Scholars are expected to:

Continue their study of Drama at GCSE

Take an active role in the dramatic life of the school
- Participate in productions, performances and co-curricular activities
- Demonstrate commitment to developing their performance skills
Benefits and recognition
Drama Scholars receive:
- A £500 reduction on first-term fees
- Invitations to theatre performances and screenings of digital productions
- Opportunities to take part in specialist workshops
- One-to-one support from the Director of Drama and department staff
- Opportunities to perform in school productions and events
- Invitations to special occasions, including an annual tea with the Headmaster
- A Drama Scholar’s badge

Drama Scholarships (Year 12)
Our Sixth Form Drama Scholarships are designed to support and inspire students with exceptional performance talent as they prepare for further study and future opportunities in the creative industries.
Who should apply?
Drama Scholarships are awarded to students entering Year 12 who demonstrate:
- Strong performance ability and stage presence
- Creativity and interpretative skill
- A clear commitment to developing their acting or theatre-making practice
How to apply
- Application deadline: Friday 26 February 2027
- Applications are submitted as part of the Sixth Form application process
Assessment process
- Applications are reviewed by the Director of Drama
- Shortlisted candidates are invited to LGS for an interview and audition process during the Lent (Spring) Term 2027
- Scholarships are awarded based on performance, potential and overall suitability
Expectations of Drama Scholars
Sixth Form Drama Scholars are expected to:

Study Drama at A Level and engage fully in the subject
- Take a leading role in school productions and performances
- Contribute to the wider creative life of the school
- Support events such as open evenings and performances
Benefits and recognition
Drama Scholars in the Sixth Form receive:
- A £500 reduction on first-term fees
- A Sixth Form scholar tie, pin badge and/or scarf
- Invitations to theatre performances and digital screenings
- Opportunities to participate in specialist workshops and masterclasses
- Individual support to develop audition pieces and prepare for further study
- Opportunities to take a leading role in productions and events
- Their name displayed on the Sixth Form Scholars Board
- An invitation for the scholar and their parents to attend an annual tea with the Headmaster
